Privacy Policy

1. The short version

BarTab runs on prices people report, not on personal data we sell. We collect what we need to run your account, show you nearby bars, and keep the price map trustworthy and not much beyond that. The sections below spell out exactly what that means.

2. Information we collect

• Account information: your email address and authentication credentials, handled through Supabase. We don't ask for your real name, and your profile can use a handle instead.
• Waitlist signups: if you join the waitlist on our website, we store the email address you give us so we can let you know when BarTab is available where you are. You can ask us to remove it at any time.
• Location data: with your permission, we use precise location to show nearby venues and to verify you were reasonably close to a bar when you submit a price. We don't keep a running history of everywhere you've been — a submission stores the bar it was tied to, not a trail of your movements.
• User submissions: prices, "still accurate?" confirmations, venue reports, and any group or poll content you create.
• Device and usage information: basic technical data (app version, crash logs, coarse device type) that helps us fix bugs. We don't use this to build an advertising profile.

3. How we use your data

Your data is processed to run the app: authenticating you, displaying and verifying crowdsourced prices, powering follows, groups and price alerts, and keeping the platform working as intended. We don't sell personal data, and we don't run ads inside BarTab.

4. Data storage and third parties

• Supabase: handles authentication and database storage, protected by Row-Level Security policies that scope what any given request can read or write.
• Apple Maps (MapKit): powers the in-app map. Map requests don't carry your account identifiers.
• Cloudflare: runs the Turnstile challenge on our website to block automated signups.
• Brevo: sends the transactional email that confirms a waitlist signup.

We don't sell data to advertisers or data brokers, and we vet any processor before working with them.

5. How long we keep data

Price reports and venue data stay on the platform indefinitely, since the whole point is a running history the community can check against. They aren't tied to your identity once your account is deleted. Account information is deleted when you close your account, aside from what we're legally required to retain.

6. Your rights (GDPR & Swiss FADP)

You can inspect, export, correct, or permanently delete your account and associated personal data at any time, either from account settings in the app or by contacting us directly. If you're in the EU or Switzerland, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

7. Children's privacy

BarTab deals with alcohol pricing and isn't intended for anyone under the legal drinking age in their country. We don't knowingly collect data from minors, and we'll delete any account we learn belongs to one.

8. Changes to this policy

If we make a material change to how we handle your data, we'll update the date at the top of this page and, where the change is significant, let you know in the app before it takes effect.
